The best couples apps in 2026: an honest comparison
There are couples apps for talking more, for playing, for staying close at a distance and for finding out what you both want. Here are nine, compared on what their own store listings and sites say: what they're for, what they cost and what they declare about your data.
A note before we start: we make one of them, La Brasa, so we're not neutral. That's why every fact about the others comes from their Google Play listing, the US App Store or their own site, checked on 12 October 2026, and why each one gets a line on where it beats ours. Nobody paid to be here and there are no affiliate links.

Paired: the most complete for working on the relationship
Paired is the best-known couples app: over a million downloads on Google Play, where it carries the Editors' Choice badge. Each day brings a conversation: you answer, unlock your partner's answer and talk about it. It also has guided journeys on communication, conflict, money and more, with guidance from therapists and other experts.
Where it beats La Brasa: far more guided depth, real experts behind it, iPhone and Android, and a huge community. If you want to get better at talking and arguing, it's the reference.
Good to know: the best of it is in Premium ($14.99 a month on the US App Store, or a yearly plan between $29.99 and $74.99 depending on the offer). On Google Play it declares that it may share personal info and app activity with third parties, and on the App Store that it uses purchases, identifiers and usage data to track you.
Couple Joy: widgets and closeness at a distance
Couple Joy, from a Romanian studio, is built around your home screen: couple widgets, each other's mood in real time, the distance between you, how long you've been together and countdowns. On top of that there are daily questions, games, streaks and a shared photo journal.
Where it beats La Brasa: the widgets and everything designed for distance, a very big question library, and you can start for free. It's on iPhone and Android.
Good to know: Premium starts at $12.99 on the US App Store, and it sells streak repairs. On Google Play it declares no data shared with third parties (it does collect data such as location). On the App Store it declares that it uses purchases, identifiers and usage data to track you.
Candle: one-minute rituals
Candle, a San Francisco start-up, asks for one minute a day: questions you both answer and unlock, BeReal-style photo prompts just for the two of you, games like "who's more likely to", streaks, and Thumb Kisses, which vibrate when you both touch the screen at once. It also has local date ideas you swipe to match on, still in testing.
Where it beats La Brasa: it's very polished, the daily photos build a lovely album, Thumb Kisses work beautifully at a distance, and it's on iPhone and Android.
Good to know: Premium is $4.99 a week, $12.99 a month or $39.99 to $49.99 a year on the US App Store. On Google Play it declares no data shared with third parties and promises no ads; on the App Store it declares that it uses identifiers to track you.
Agapé: one question a day, with anyone
Agapé does one thing: a question a day, and you see the answers only once you've both replied. The twist is that it isn't only for couples: you can use it with friends or family, and the questions change with who you're talking to. The spicy ones only come between partners.
Where it beats La Brasa: it works for all your relationships, and it has very specific categories (pregnancy, parenting, money, reconnecting, long distance).
Good to know: thousands of questions are free and premium categories need a subscription ($9.99 to $14.99 a month, or $19.99 to $99.99 a year depending on the offer). On Google Play it declares that it may share personal info and app activity with third parties.
Lovewick: questions, dates and memories
Lovewick mixes a question game (more than 1,000, in six decks), a library of 750+ date ideas you can filter by cost or distance, reminders of what your partner likes, and a timeline of your memories.
Where it beats La Brasa: the filterable date ideas and the memory timeline. Your partner can even answer questions without the app.
Good to know: Plus is $9.99 a month, $14.99 a quarter or $29.99 a year according to its Google Play listing; without Plus, daily questions are limited. On Google Play it declares that it may share photos and app activity with third parties.
Spicer: the original yes, maybe or no
Spicer was one of the first apps to do what many couples do on paper: a list of intimate ideas you each answer yes, maybe or no to. If you both say yes or maybe, it's a match; if either of you says no, nobody sees it. It has question packs, your own questions, challenges and a chat.
Where it beats La Brasa: it's the original, you can write your own questions, it's in nine languages, and if you want explicit content, it has it.
Good to know: on Android it isn't on Google Play: according to its site, Google removed it in August 2020 and you install it from an APK. Plus is $6.99 or $59.99 ($109.99 lifetime), plus individual packs. The difference with La Brasa is the maybe: in Spicer, two maybes make a match; in La Brasa a maybe stays private and only Love it and Down to try count.
Yes No Maybe: the list, privately
Yes No Maybe is the newest app here and does one thing: more than 100 ideas, from everyday closeness to things you've never said out loud, that you each swipe yes, no or maybe on. You only ever see what you both said yes to; maybes and nos stay private. It adds "Tonight", a one-tap signal that you're in the mood, which your partner answers privately.
Where it beats La Brasa: it's on iPhone as well as Android, and it's very focused: if a private yes, no, maybe list is all you want, it's the simplest way to get it.
Good to know: swiping, linking and your first match are free; Premium ($29.99 a year on its Google Play listing, covering both of you) opens the rest of your matches, discussion prompts and Tonight. On Google Play it declares no data shared with third parties. It's small so far (1,000+ downloads) and in English.
Desire: dares with points
Desire is a dare game: you send each other dares, earn points for doing them and level up to the "Chili level". It has a private chat (you can pixelate parts of photos), video chat, a journal and a daily question.
Where it beats La Brasa: the points and levels are genuinely moreish, and the video chat helps at a distance.
Good to know: the free version has ads (Google Play says so, and removing them is a paid purchase), with a paid Platinum account and coin packs on top.
La Brasa: what you both want, in private
We make this one, so read it knowing that. In La Brasa you each rate ideas on your own with Love it, Down to try, Maybe or Not for me, and only what you both want shows up as a match; your no is never shown. There's a question a day you answer before you see your partner's, games from sweet to spicy (would you rather, tier lists, Heat up, Dare roulette), and a little ember you grow together on your home screen. No ads, analytics only if you say yes, and it's written in English, European Portuguese and Spain's Spanish.
Where the others beat it: La Brasa is Android only, its library is smaller than Paired's or Couple Joy's, and it has no chat, photo journal or expert programs. It's free; Plus (€4.99 a month or €29.99 a year, one payment for both of you) adds unlimited games and your whole history.
Get it on Google PlayHow to choose yours
- iPhone or Android? You both need the same app. If either of you is on iPhone, La Brasa is out for now; the others run on both (Spicer on Android through its APK).
- Talk, play or find out? To talk, Paired or Agapé; to play, Candle or Desire; to find out what you both want without an awkward conversation, La Brasa or Spicer.
- How much does privacy matter to you? Open the data safety section of each listing before you install. It takes a minute.
- Will you pay? Almost all are free to start. If you subscribe, check whether one payment covers both of you: in La Brasa it does.
How we checked
On 12 October 2026 we read each app's Google Play listing and its US App Store page, and its website where it has one. Prices are the US App Store's unless marked; privacy facts are what each developer declares on the stores. We haven't used every paid tier in depth, so we don't judge what's inside beyond what they describe. If something has changed or is wrong, write to support@labrasa.io and we'll fix it.
Questions
What is the best free couples app?
It depends on what you want, because almost every couples app is free to start and charges for more. Couple Joy and Agapé leave a lot free for conversation. In La Brasa the daily question, the cards and matches and every game level are free, and Plus is optional.
Are there free apps like Paired?
Agapé (one question a day, free with premium categories), Couple Joy (questions, games and widgets, free to start) and La Brasa (a daily question revealed after you both answer, private matches and games, free with an optional Plus) cover a lot of the same ground without a subscription.
Which couples app is the most private?
Check each store listing: on Google Play, the data safety section says whether an app shares data with third parties, and on the App Store, whether it uses data to track you. Here, Couple Joy and Candle declare on Google Play that they share no data with third parties. La Brasa has no ads, uses analytics only if you say yes (never what you share), and your no is never shown.
What's the best app for long-distance couples?
Couple Joy (widgets and a distance tracker), Candle (photo prompts and Thumb Kisses) and Desire (video chat) are built around distance. In La Brasa you can answer the daily question, play and send each other taps from anywhere, and your ember lives on both home screens.
