Spicer for Android: how to get it, and alternatives on Google Play

La Brasa · · 4 min read

If you've looked for Spicer on Google Play and found nothing, you're not imagining it: Spicer isn't there. Here's why, how Android users still get it, and two apps on Google Play that do the same thing.

Disclosure: one of those two apps is ours, La Brasa. Everything about Spicer and the other app comes from their own sites and store listings, checked on 12 October 2026.

Why Spicer isn't on Google Play

Spicer's own Android page says it was on Google Play for three years until Google removed it on 17 August 2020. It doesn't give a formal reason, though the same site notes that outside Google Play, Spicer doesn't have to follow Google's strict policies. On iPhone it's still on the App Store, rated 18+.

So on Android, Spicer is distributed as an APK: an app file you download from spicer.app and install yourself.

How to install an APK safely

  1. Download it from the developer only. For Spicer, that's spicer.app. Never from a mirror or a "free APK" site.
  2. Allow your browser to install apps, once. Android asks when you open the file. You can turn the permission off again afterwards in Settings.
  3. Keep Play Protect on. Google Play Protect still scans apps you install from outside the store.
  4. Think about updates. An app from outside Google Play doesn't update through the Play Store, so check how the developer handles new versions.

We say all this without judgment: La Brasa has an APK on labrasa.io too, next to the Google Play version, for people who prefer it.

What Spicer does

Spicer turns a classic paper exercise into an app: a list of intimate ideas you each answer yes, maybe or no. When you both say yes or maybe, it's a match; anything either of you says no to stays hidden. It has free, advanced and Plus question packs, lets you write your own questions, and adds challenges, dares, a private chat and an intimacy calendar. It's free to start; Plus is $6.99 or $59.99 on the US App Store, with a lifetime option at $109.99, plus individual packs. It speaks nine languages.

Alternatives on Google Play

Yes No Maybe is the closest match: you each swipe yes, no or maybe on more than 100 ideas, from everyday closeness to things you've never said out loud, and you only see what you both said yes to. Your maybes and nos stay yours. It also has "Tonight", a one-tap signal that you're in the mood, which your partner answers privately. Swiping, linking and your first match are free; Premium is $29.99 a year and covers both of you. On Google Play it declares no data shared with third parties. It's in English and on both stores.

La Brasa does private matching as part of a wider app for couples. Each day you rate a few cards with Love it, Down to try, Maybe or Not for me, at the heat level each of you picks, from mild to fiery. Only cards you both loved or are down to try become matches, and you can plan them for tonight, the weekend or someday. Around that: a daily question you answer before seeing your partner's, games from sweet to spicy, and a little ember you grow together. It's free, with Plus at €4.99 a month for both of you, and it's in English, Portuguese and Spanish. It's on Google Play.

Which one to pick

And if you'd rather start with a conversation than an app, our guide to talking to your partner about what you want covers the paper version too.

A card to rate on your own: love it, down to try, maybe, or not for me

Private matching on Google Play

In La Brasa you rate ideas on your own, and only what you both want ever shows up. Your partner never sees your maybe or your no, and you never see theirs.

Questions

Is Spicer on Google Play?

No. According to Spicer's own site, Google removed it from Google Play on 17 August 2020. Android users install it from an APK on spicer.app instead.

Is it safe to install an APK?

It can be, if it comes straight from the developer's own site and you keep your phone's protections on. You give your browser permission to install apps once, Google Play Protect still scans what you install, and you can turn the permission off again afterwards. Never install an APK from a mirror or download site.

Can a Spicer user on iPhone link with a partner on Android?

Yes. Spicer's site says it works the same on any device and that partners on different phones can link with each other.

What's the difference between Spicer, Yes No Maybe and La Brasa?

All three let you answer ideas in private and show only what you both want. In Spicer, two maybes also make a match; in Yes No Maybe and La Brasa, a maybe stays private. Spicer adds custom questions and explicit packs, Yes No Maybe a one-tap Tonight signal, and La Brasa a daily question, games and a shared ember.
