Free apps like Paired: what to use if you don't want a subscription
Paired is a good app with a catch: most of it lives behind Premium. If you liked it but don't want another subscription, there are free apps that cover a lot of the same ground. Here they are, picked by what you liked about Paired in the first place.
We make one of them, La Brasa, so take our enthusiasm with a pinch of salt. Every fact about the others comes from their store listings and help pages, checked on 12 October 2026.
What Paired gives you for free
According to Paired's own help center, the free version gives you a new conversation every day: a question you both answer, then talk about. Premium adds the rest: more than 1,000 conversation prompts, couple games, expert tips and exercises on communication and intimacy, deeper journeys on specific topics, and insights about your relationship.
Premium costs $14.99 a month on the US App Store, with yearly plans listed between $29.99 and $74.99 depending on the offer. One thing Paired does well: if you're paired in the app, one subscription covers both of you.
So the question is which part of Paired you'd miss. Here's a free alternative for each.
If you liked the daily question
Agapé is the closest thing to Paired's daily conversation: one question a day, and you see the answers only once you've both replied. It says thousands of its questions are free, and it works with friends and family too, not only your partner. Premium categories (parenting, finances, long distance and more) are paid.
La Brasa also asks you a question a day, and you see your partner's answer only after giving yours, so nobody copies. You can react to their answer and reply under it, keep a streak, and look back on past days. The daily question is free.
If you liked the games and quizzes
Couple Joy is free to start and packed: daily questions, couple games and quizzes, plus widgets for your home screen. Some content and extras are Premium.
La Brasa has would you rather, tier lists, Heat up, Dare roulette and quizzes, from sweet to spicy at the level each of you picks. Every game level is free; Plus adds unlimited games.
If you liked the expert content
This is the hardest part to replace for free, and one free app does it well: Gottman Card Decks, from The Gottman Institute, the relationship research institute founded by John and Julie Gottman. It's a set of card decks: questions you can ask your partner, and suggestions for things to say and do. No streaks or games, just good cards. It's free on Google Play and the App Store (in English).
If you liked the date nights and memories
Lovewick has a library of more than 750 free date ideas you can filter by cost, time or distance, saved to shared wish lists, plus a memory timeline. Its question game is limited each day without Plus.
If you want something Paired doesn't do
Paired helps you talk about everything, including intimacy, but it doesn't help you find out quietly what you both want. Two apps do that: each of you answers yes, maybe or no to ideas in private, and only shared yeses show up.
- Yes No Maybe is built around exactly that list, with a one-tap "Tonight" signal. Swiping and your first match are free; Premium ($29.99 a year, for both of you) opens the rest.
- La Brasa does it with Love it, Down to try, Maybe or Not for me, and adds the daily question, the games and a little ember you grow together. Your no is never shown.
